Certain people just tend to focus all of their attention on ONE aspect of a story and judge an entire piece of work based solely on a personal predisposition. Thems the Breaks...

And yes, I've seen 'Serenity'. I was heavily disappointed the first time I saw it (mainly because it wasn't the show), but it grew on me over time (and over multiple viewings). I thought 'Firefly' was some of Whedon's best work, and I say that as someone who was watching 'Buffy' before I could grow armpit hair. 'Firefly' had the most palpable surrogate family of all the Whedon shows/comics. Not a single performer was miscast, not a single character was unimportant. I guess America just isn't ready for a Steampunk/Fantasy/Western with Sci-Fi trappings =P

What really got me is, well...I never noticed the least bit of vegan/animal rights propaganda. And I grew up surrounded by moral vegetarians. I therefore, I HATE vegetarian propaganda-- not because it makes me morally uncomfortable, but for the same reason my mother, a child of Christian Fundamentalists, hates the slightest hint of anything religious. I've heard it, I'm sick of it, it makes me want to go wrap myself in gorilla skin just for spite.* I am hypersensitive to the stuff, having had it pounded into my head at a wee young age when I had very little say over my consumption either way. I am bitter and resentful and all.
And I NEVER picked up on any propaganda from this strip. Not even a little. The fur coat line was *funny*. And Ethan is Ethan; a character having a viewpoint does not amount to preaching. So I don't know what the heck she's on about.

On a totally related note, have you seen Serenity yet? The Big D*** Movie for Firefly? Because it does indeed kick butt. Best series ever to be ruined by a network, in my utterly unhumble opinion.

*This is of course hyperbole. I won't even eat octopus. I have a strict policy against potentially angering anything that can open jars.

I was a huge fan of Pokemon, too. I'm just saying that's it's one of many juvenile series she gave a very high score. I guess I fell into the "someone is wrong on the internet!" a little hard. Sorry for getting so riled up. :)

Thanks, Noelley B, for the support. Although I agree with you that the reviewer was inept, I don't want to bash any of the other works she enjoys. Truth be told, I was once a huge Pokemon fan as well =P

Looking at your reviewer's other reviews, I'd say Miss Sheena McNeal is a fourteen year old girl. Mentally, at least. Almost everything she's reviewed is an anime or a manga, and from the titles I recognize, The more banal, trite, and sexist it is, the better the score.

Examples (I have seen either the item in question or something from the same series of all of these):
3 different Sailor Moon animes all received a 9
Rurouni Kenshin only got a 6
Ranma 1/2 got an 8
Puni Puni Poemy, the most stupid fan-service delivery system ever, received a 10
The average for the 25 various Pokemon things she has reviewed is 8.44
Naruto v. 1 got a 10
Megatokyo (the joke of the geeky webcomic world) recieved a 10

Yeah, I wouldn't really put much wait in this woman's opinion.
